L-Theanine: The Amino Acid for a Mind That Won't Switch Off

There is a particular kind of tired that sleep does not fix, because the problem is not tiredness. You are exhausted, the room is dark, the day is over — and your mind is still going. L-Theanine is the active in SLEEPTIME that speaks to exactly that state.

The amino acid in your tea

L-Theanine is a free-form amino acid found naturally in green tea leaves. It is not a sedative and it is not a herb extract — it is a single, well-characterised compound.

It also explains something you may have noticed without naming it. Green tea contains caffeine, yet it does not usually produce the edge that coffee can. The difference is L-Theanine, present alongside the caffeine, shaping how the whole cup feels.

Calm, not drowsy

This distinction is the entire point of the ingredient, and it is worth being precise about.

L-Theanine is associated with a state of relaxed clarity rather than heaviness. It is not the feeling of being pulled under. It is the feeling of the noise level dropping — thoughts still present, but no longer insistent.

In our formula it is included to support relaxation and mental calm, at 200 mg.

That is deliberately not the same thing as sedation. Sedation overrides. What most people actually need at eleven at night is not to be switched off, but to stop being switched on.

Why a sleep formula needs a mental active

Think honestly about your worst recent night. There is a reasonable chance your body was perfectly willing — tired legs, heavy eyes — and the obstacle was upstairs. Tomorrow's meeting. A conversation replayed for the fourth time. The list.

Magnesium supports the body's side of winding down: muscle relaxation and nervous system calm. Melatonin supports the timing signal. Neither of them is aimed at a mind that will not stop, and a formula without an active for that is answering two-thirds of the question.

L-Theanine is the third part. That is why SLEEPTIME carries three actives rather than one — explained in full in three actives, one night's work.

Why the wind-down starts before bed

SLEEPTIME is taken 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime, not as you get into bed. That instruction exists because of how this part of the formula works.

Mental calm is not a switch. It is a descent, and it needs a little runway. Taking the capsules at the point your head hits the pillow leaves no time for the wind-down to begin before you are already asking your body to sleep.

Half an hour before bed, with the lights lowered and the screens down, is when the ingredient and the ritual are working in the same direction.

Free-form, and named on the pack

Our L-Theanine is free-form — the amino acid itself, not bound within a larger protein that must first be broken down.

And it is declared with its amount, alongside the other two actives, with no proprietary blend. Three ingredients, three quantities, printed on the pack. For a product you take every night, being able to read exactly what you are taking should be the minimum.
